The Dead kicked off one of their most epic years with a legendary performance at Swing Auditorium. It was the birthplace of Terrapin Station - the show opener, no less - as well as Estimated Prophet. Other highlights were a great Playing>Wheel>Playing sandwich and a rollicking Eyes of the World that ventures into some of the uncharted and inscrutable territory of The Phil Zone, only to bring us back to a discofied and bass-thumpin' Dancing in the Streets. This was not the same "understated" Dead that came out of the gates so gracefully relaxed in Portland, Oregon in '76 (see HT 06); this was a new band firing on all cylinders, exhibiting a very robust sound and deep, sonorous energy, as though the Dead had indeed tapped into the rejuvenating, primordial electric currents of Terrapin Station.

Rob Bertrando, taper extraordinaire, was there that night to capture the magic in yet another full-bodied and dynamic recording. His tape's marriage to the famous "Betty Board" gives a whole new level of sonic dimension to what was already an amazing sounding show. This was only the tip of the iceberg of what was going to be one of the hottest years in Dead History. So get up and start swingin' - the '77 train has rolled into the Station!

I like the Sugaree - 5/28/77 - played in Hartford. This Feb 26, '77 Sugaree ranks among all the May '77 Sugarees. Thanks for pointing this music out, and for committing ear-crimes. Some older Sugarees that come to mind are...

I think I'm gonna get ten years in the state penitentiary for this next matrix I'm working on. I need a very good lawyer.

I thought more people would laugh at my joke. Oh well *shrug*, not to toot my own horn but I thought it was pretty funny.

I don't get why this matrix is criminal?

2-26-77 is one of my very favorite Sugaree's and it rarely seems to get mentioned when people discuss this song. I know you are a big sugaree aficionado so i am glad you noticed.
